If you have lived through the ever changing years of Rock & Roll, then you have heard of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was established in 1983, 41 years ago this year. They opened their doors 29 years ago this month, in 1995.
Located in Cleveland Ohio on the shore of Lake Erie, the "Rock Hall" is a museum and hall of fame which has documented the journey of rock music, country, etc...
The hall features exhibits, galleries, films, videos; as well as stores, kiosks and so much more.
The hall of fame has many programs to tell the amazing story of Rock & Roll. They hold concerts, film screenings and even have programs for children like "Play It Loud" for grades K-5 and "We Shall Overcome" for grades 7-12 and so much more for children of all ages.
When an artist is inducted into the hall of fame they are honored with a exhibit that looks out over Lake Erie, they receive recognition as one of the most famous, they receive a plaque to be displayed in the museum and of course, the ceremony.
In 1986, the first inductees were Chuck Berry; being the first, to Elvis Presley, James Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers and Fats Domino.
In 1987, Aretha Franklin was the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Stevie Nicks was the first woman to be inducted twice; first in 1998 with Fleetwood Mac and in 2019, for being a solo artist. The only musician to be inducted 3 times was Eric Clapton. One of the youngest inducted was Stevie Wonder at the age of 39 until IIan Rubin, (Drummer Nine Inch Nails) was inducted at the age of 32 and one of the oldest inducted is Willie Nelson at the age of 90 in 2023.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is not just about rock & roll. In 1986, the hall of fame began inducting country artists. In 2007, they started inducting hip-hop and rap artists.
In order to become eligible for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, it has to be 25 years after the release of their first recording.
The worlds favorite Ms. Taylor Swift; who has had such a huge impact on the music industry, has became the only person to win the Grammy award for album of the year 4 times. By 2024, she has become the most awarded solo artist in Video Music Awards history. Taylor will not be eligible for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame until 2031, which is not far away. I personally, have no doubt that will happen!! I am looking forward to her remaining shows on the Eras Tour.
This years Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees include Cher, Mary J. Blige, Foreigner, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, A Tribe Called Quest and my personal favorite, Ozzy Osbourne. The ceremony takes place October 19, 2024 so keep an eye out and make sure not to miss it!!
How do you feel about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? Do you watch it? How do you feel about the hall of fame inducting country, hip-hop or rap artists? How do you feel about the ever changing music industry? How do you feel about how it has developed into 2024? I am intrigued to hear your opinions. Lets talk!
